There's loads of single track and forestry roads amongst the native and exotic plantations around Hanmer - found just off the Lewis Pass Highway (SH 7) two hours north of Christchurch.

Getting There
Score a map from the Visitors‘ Centre on the main road (next to the hot pools) and follow your nose. Check out Dog Stream, a wonderful multi-use single track starting above Hanmer. For a longer excursion head around Mt Isobel on the shingle road via Jacks Pass and Jollies Pass.

There's an abundance of eating and watering holes in Hanmer ...
but best of all you can finish the day soaking in the hot pools.
