WAINUIOMATA TRAIL PROJECT
There are plans afoot to develop and maintain a network of multi-use bush trails in the two south facing horse shoe shaped basins that overlook the parkway region of Wainuiomata. The first trail provides an alternative to walking the narrow grass bank to the right of the Wainuiomata Hill road. It will start from the end of Waiu road, with an alternative access next to the white painted wood and bark ‘Wainuiomata’ ground sign just up from the base of the hill. The trail will feature benching, flowing trail and switch backs enabling it to finish just behind the galvanised steel vehicle barrier at the top of the hill.
The project, created and managed by Wainuiomata High School teacher Tryfan Ephraim, employs a student workforce on the end of tools purchased by the Ground Effect Slush Fund.
Tryfan is currently looking for voluteers from the Hutt or the 'nui, flick him an email or jump on vorb.org.nz and search for the Wainuiomata Trail Project thread.
