ASSET - RAWHITI MTB PARK, WHAKATANE

The Whakatane Mountain Bike Club has recently gained access to 470ha of private land within the Asset and Rawhiti Forest Blocks. Situated ten minutes east of Whakatane on the East Coast of the North Island  the club is building what will become a welcome additional  to New Zealand's  suite of Mountain Bike Parks. The highest point at 370m allows expansive views across the bay and plenty of scope for a variety of trails. The planned tracks will cater to XC, Downhill and recreational riders as well as a fun park for the free riding fraternity. The club is focusing on opening the grade 2-3 tracks first then extending on to more demanding track systems. Ground Effect has shelled out for a scrub-cutter to ease the load at the coal-face.

Due to being privately owned 'working' forests a permit is required for access. This can be obtained  by joining WMTBC or by purchasing a 'Temp 3 Week Permit' from any of the main cycling shops, Whakatane Info Centre, Ohope Beach Holiday Park or Mobil on Pohutukawa Ave, Ohope.
